Im 2 years into living in GA now. I came from Seattle. We dont have the bugs out there like we do here. Some are quite fascinating. Last night, I came across this interesting lil guy, never seen one like this. I flies, but does not seem like it flies very far. Anyone know what type of bug it is? It was just under an inch long.

I don't know spiders but the back end of it shaped like a fiddle gives me shivers. The recluse looks like a fiddle and they are extremely poisonous, will give you fast and furious permanent rot. Take a look at some pics online and see if it's a match.

it's certainly not a spider - nor a carabideae, which are beetles.

it's most likely an assassin bug.

There is a strong resemblance, it may just be that Assassin bug. I cant remember if it had the same wings as in the sample picture or not. But looking at the body, colors, head shape, etc, it looks spot on!

Of course it's a beetle! I should take a closer look at the body before panicking that a little critter is a spider. I've never heard of the assassin bug (probably just not listening ) so looked them up. The google image page is filled with all different colors of assassin bugs and so many unique features. Kinda pretty beetles! I was looking for one with the stripes around each side of the body and legs like blackhemi's pic and it's there along with so many colors such as lavender and every other color! Now I'm intrigued with assassin bugs!

Don't get bit. Some are reportedly SERIOUSLY painful.

Ill try not to

I got stung once by some cool looking red/black fuzzy ant. One of the worst bites I every had. I later learned it was a wingless wasp called Velvet Ant or Cow Killer.

We defenantly did not have these in Washington where I came from and boy, it hurt like crazy.
