Google maps now has a feature with which you can do a flyover of any drive. Just go to Google Maps, select Get Directions, enter your start and end point, confirm the blue line is on the route you want, and then click the tiny little box with a [3D>], to the right of "driving directions to (destination)."

I think the most awesome major highway on a mountain road is from Lovell to Sheridan Wyoming.

Backroads through the central Kentucky Bluegrass region: tree-lined, bordered by early nineteenth century drystone walls, with tree-lined barred fences just beyond surrounding the pastures filled with thoroughbred horses and elegant traditional stables. Small creeks meandering throughout the gently rolling hills. Normally green most of the year (but getting very dry right now due to drought and heat).

The loop drive through the Red River Gorge in eastern Kentucky. Woods, cliffs, tunnel, waterfalls, wildlife, birds, mountains, around 100 natural arches and bridges, wild river, rock formations, trails, small museum, picnic areas, incredible spring wildflowers and fall color.

And of course, the Blue Ridge Parkway. All of it. Just as long as it's not fogged in!

Stunning, especially in the fall.

Also, I drove the Blue Ridge Parkway in northern Virginia...stunning:

Unknown road to Autoroute 20 W - Google Maps
In the left menu, look just to the right of the words "Driving directions to Autoroute 20 W", right below where it tells you the total mileage. If clicking it once doesn't activate it, click it again.

Highway 2 in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Check out Highway 35 also known as the Great River Road in Wisconsin, it runs along the Mississippi River and has some beautiful views.
