Long and beetle-ish and black and gold toned. Oh Yuck they are swarming our neighborhood!

No not the japanese beetles I know those. Funny thing is there were none of these last spring around here either.

I don't know of any bugs like this. They might be some kind of locust? *** beetles don't show up till June/July.

I've seen something similar in my neighborhood. Long, locust like .... kind of.
But I haven't seen swarms... just a few.

I have a bug query too though it was from last year.

The strangest looking bug I've seen ended up in my house..

ACK....it has wings!

Anyhow, here's a site that I frequented when we first moved here (and once in NJ when strange beetle like things were dive bombing our heads at a park) for bug identification;
What's That Bug?

I haven't had time to post the above creature but I'm still curious as to what it is. For the record, this fellow was captured by my husband and put outside.

Also, I wanted to note that my neighbors and I have noticed that each year, there's an abundance of some sort of bug. This year, the mosquito hawks/crane flies are EVERYWHERE you step, flying off the grass, bushes, etc.

Do you have a photo of the offending bug?
Lauren

Lauren, that thing is both bizarre and creepy. Looks like a cross between a moth and grasshopper? Almost looks like that thing in that silly Richard Gere movie from several years back.
