How do they get in???

Yes, I have the occasional ant, spiders etc but most often crickets....they're usually in the bathroom.
not afraid of course, just wondering what their inroad is...

anyone have an idea?

My cats love to find them by surprise...

tiny floor-level cracks, is my guess. i went under my house recently and there were plenty in the crawl space, a few always seem to make it inside.

Native Americans and Asian cultures consider them good luck when in your house Ms. Heron

(I know you asked how they get in, I think Uggabugga answered that, just thought I'd throw in the culture thing)

Especially if they're wearing a top hat, morning coat, spats and carrying a little umbrella.

They are not unwelcome here...just wondered what part of my house was allowing them entry.

If they get in, they stay in, as do the spiders....

Bout the same here. Crickets, spiders and many other things find their way in. I know I get bit by spiders in my sleep. Just last week I pulled back the covers to get into bed and found a spider trying to scurry away under the covers. Just changed the sheets 2 days earlier. Killed 4 more on the walls that same night. Not wild about 'em. Crickets generally keep to the basement but sometimes get upstairs, as do lizards (anoles) and scorpions on occasion. I have to vacuum corners, behind furniture and under furniture and behind blinds and drapes every 2 weeks or they're everywhere. Don't mind regular crickets so much but those cave crickets creep me out. Cat likes them tho!

Btw.. love the area you're from. Used to go rafting on the Nantahala when Ocoee was shut down. Been a while tho.
Spent time in Cherokee a few times. Beautiful!

One of my daughters and I were thinking about making a run up there in the fall again.

When the wife freaks over seeing a spider inside, I tell her it's eating things she'd probably like even less

Cherokee is especially gorgeous.....I haven't been up in a while or on the river in ages.

Have you seen the outdoor drama in Cherokee, Unto These Hills? It's the story of the Trail Of Tears, using many Cherokee actors, it's very professíonally done and has been on each summer for many many years. If a bit of drama is your thing, I highly recommend it...there's singing and dancing too of course. It's only in the summer though...you could catch it on the tail end of the season.

Ps you are better at cleaning than I am...!
