Every spring the Texas Gulf coast is inundated with garbage on our shores. Most of it is trash that is printed in a language I've never seen. Some is in Spanish, some in Arabic, but it obviously didn't come from the USA. While we as Americans get hammered for pollution all of the time, no other country or people are laying any claims on the mountain of trash they throw in oceans. As a fisherman that goes out in the Gulf of Mexico many miles and for days at a time, I've seen foreign ships dumping their garbage overboard but who's so say who they are or for that matter, what entity would have any arresting powers to stop it. There isn't one. As the Great Pacific Garbage Patch grows daily, I look for some enterprising fool to take advantage of the situation and start mining the plastics that are there. The recyclables should be worth millions if not billions. It's greed and money that will solve the problem, not over hyped videos.
Perhaps a refundable deposit on all pollutable products? It works for pop/soda containers in some states.
