Neighbor use to have that happen with his patio door with several species. Screens pretty much stop it.

I had a couple of cardinals attacking my car mirrors for several years starting back in 2001. It did not stop until a stray cat adopted us in 2006. A few days after the cat showed up, there was a small pile of red feathers on the ground and the car mirror was unmarred. Lots of cardinals around, but none have bothered my cars since.

Cardinals are very territorial this Male Cardinal attack the camera several times. A automated camera.
