Really the only thing you can do is run and try to get into a car or a house. Even if a handful of bees follow you, it's better than the rest of the swarm getting you. Africanized bees will even wait for you if you jump into a pool. Once you come up for air they attack. The ones that attacked me went for my head, got about 15 stings on my head, but none anywhere else.

Sad but TX has had them Africanized bees for some time 10 years plus? We have a lot of paper wasps but they never sting me, fly right next to me when mowing. Only time I cam close to getting stung I was dripping sweat, they are more scent oriented then bees I think?

The Africanized bees will attack if you make a loud noise--mower, weed eater, etc. The city of Hidalgo, Texas has a big model known as the world's biggest "killer bee", & the (former) local hockey team was called the RGV (Rio Grande Valley) Killer Bees. They say to assume all bees here on the border are Africanized. It's scary. There are several deaths of people & animals (even full sized horses!) each year.
