I've worked around big cats and animal handlers and seen the salesmanship from elephant handlers and big cat handlers fool the media as a routine and it a common practice to enhance their reps and get jobs.
George for instance raised 'George' form a cub. "George' could snarl and roar and scare the bedickens out of anyone. In one press gathering "George' began his routine with the media ducking for cover...George steps up and shouts at the lion and the lion calms down. the media now makes George into a super hero and expert cat tamer as we all try to hide our laughter.
Lou the elephant guy used KCL to create purple haze to awe his media audience as a secret ingredient in treating an elephants foot. For the media he pulled out an electric hair clipper and a blow torch when the press was gone.
Cats have huge personality differences and only very select animals are picked to work with.
Now, it is not to say strange things don't happen in nature, some anomolies and anecdotal stories do create reputations. But wild and dangerous critters are just that and this story read by some 'animal lover' will prompt some kid to think he has the 'power'. Have to say this attitude of 'bonding' with a dangerous critter is more common than not among folks hired to work in that arena. Accident waiting to happen.
We have had moose hang out with cows, wild grouse following people around and all manner of unnatural relationships.
Latest was the guy who lived with grizz and brown bears, knew them and could speak their language until a big bear woofed him and his girlfiend. He had a long run of publicity which made him seem to be a bear whisperer and have an innate ability to communitae with bears.
Be in awe of nature and its annomolies but don't draw any had fast conclusions because it is the mandatory diversity of nature that keeps it alive and that specturm of behaviors runs from mild to wild because nature tries to create a survivor to carry on the genes for any unexpected event.

Just about everyone that knew Tim Treadwell thought that he was demented. Just viewing his films and listening to his rants would support this viewpoint. Any person getting that close to these big bears and acting as if they were his pets must be detached from reality. The fact that he was killed was not surprising, what is surprising is that he survived 13 years among the bears before tragedy finally struck.
The one thing I did learn about big cats is that leopards are the most unpredictable. That being said, as nice as this
story may seem, I've heard from volunteers who work with tigers, cougars and lions - they are all extremely cautious
around leopards (they are always watching).
I would say if you want to be a "big" guy, go without a gun Face animal with bare hands, THAT IS something to brag about. I am not taking sides what is a right way to communicate with wild life but I rather live peace with wild. Earth is for every creature to live.

Animals have hugely wide ranges of personalities.
All it takes is the animal to have a bad day or to meet one that is sorta "charles manson". I remember watching a show on grizzly researchers and the one points to a sow a few 100 yards away and says she's really calm, so much so that he could probably pet her and get away with it. (but obviously wouldn't) he then mentioned that there was a male in the area that was essentially a complete murderous a-hole and all the other bears wouldn't let him near them. He said they always made sure to look out for him and if they saw him coming they'd essentially retreat from the area.
I've heard many many interesting stories from snake breeders over the years too. One guy had a black mamba that was totally mello where most were quite high-strung....also the smarter species would recognize different individuals and so on and so forth.

Face animal with bare hands, THAT IS something to brag about. I am not taking sides what is a right way to communicate with wild life but I rather live peace with wild. Earth is for every creature to live.
