Like others, I'm a feline fanatic... love them all. But, I love the Scottish Wildcat, because it looks cute & cuddly like a large domesticated cat, but don't let it fool you... it can take down a lamb. Sadly, there are less than 400 in the wild & they're in danger of becoming extinct within the next decade. (I know a bit about obscure cats from a niece who is a vet tech & volunteers with exotic rescues. She's a brave girl... has been in cages with sedated wilds... but still somewhat awake, enormous & dangerous... to do teeth cleanings, injections or ear cleanings, etc.)
I found an interesting article on some other lesser known large cats... never heard of most... in the event someone would like to take a look. It's a beautiful world & cats make it far more beautiful!
I voted for "cougar" but I like to refer to them as "puma".
Am I the only one old enough to remember the Smothers Brothers routine where Tommy would insist that Paul Bunyan didn't have a blue ox, but rather "a puma ... a vicious blue puma"? To this day, I am incapable of hearing the word puma without laughing. Comedy changes. Young people today probably wouldn't even find that funny.

Oh, & I did know the words cougar/puma were interchangeable, but I thought lynx/bobcat were the same, as well. Oops.

Cats are amazing hunters and athletes. That's one of the reasons I respect them. Anyone who has ever so much had to give medication to a reluctant housecat knows how fierce they can be. Being on the receiving end of claws and teeth of a big cat would be unthinkable. Makes me glad I'm not an antelope or a mouse.

You're so right, BJH. I had a tabby, who lived to be 19... she was 7-lbs her whole life... quite small & quite fierce. She was always more than a bit wild... didn't like to be picked up or held at all & would thrash around like on one of those old slow motion fishing shows when fishermen were trying to reel in a marlin. If anyone patted her more than 3 times, she angrily & quickly swatted them 3 times with one of her big, front triple paws.
I used to tell people that if she were any bigger, I'd have hidden in my room all day & asked for permission to come out. Pilling her always drew blood, just from her thrashing. Thank goodness she was strong & healthy.

NO!!! You're not.
That Smothers Brothers routine about "pumas in the crevasses" is the main reason why I like to use "puma" rather than cougar, mountain lion, or catamount.
My brother and I loved the Smothers Brothers. He bought all of their albums and we listened to them over and over. My parents took us to see them at the Lyric Theater in 1963.
If I fell in a vat of chocolate, I'd certainly yell "FIRE!!!"
