That is not a dog as the biologist said. Dogs don't eat with their front paws or move their noses up and down like that.

They should have found a scientist who would study it.

Yep, that's what I thought, too..a hairless raccoon -- or one with a bad case of mange. It uses its paws just the way a raccoon does.

That's what the man said but I've live trapped raccoons before and they DO growl. This is definitely a raccoon with a bad case of the mange and nothing more. That wildlife biologist should have known that. Maybe raccoons are rare in Texas and they just aren't familiar with them.

They absolutely growl. I had 3 pet raccoons and they all growled. They can makes several vocal sounds.

Okay, raccoons growl. That sounds plausible. Btw raccoons are definitely NOT rare in Texas. I lived there for decades and encountered them in our back yard years ago. There range is extensive in Texas as in other parts of the south. None of the ones I saw growled tho.

A DNA test on the remains of one of these critters would answer the question. Or make new questions.
