I like this one. Apparently the way to speak to a big Alaskan grizzly is sheepishly and just barely above a whisper.

The proper way to talk to a bear? At a distance. I wonder if bears have telephones.

I've never encountered a bear while in a hunting stand and I can only imagine the adrenalin rush you'd get from that. I'm not sure I could say the proper things......lol

My closest encounter with bears was while backpacking in Kings Canyon. We had stopped for the evening in a small clearing along Bubbs Creek where several trails meet and there were a number of other campers too.

A momma bear came right up to some guys were cooking and simply swiped her big paw at the pot on the stove, spilling its contents along the ground. Then her three cubs came out from the brush and they all started eating. All the pot banging and hollering to try and get them to run away was met by momma rising up and making it clear to all of us that she was not afraid of us and we should just back off.

The proper way to talk to a bear? I have been practicing on skunks for many years. I haven't gotten it wrong yet - knock on wood. At least skunks won't maul me to death. - but everybody will know if I did not say the correct words or in the correct tone. Just don't surprise the little buggers - otherwise they will have a surprise for you!
