Ok speaking of spiders. I hopped in the shower a few minutes ago and turned around to see a big black spider on the far end of the tub. I kept telling him to stay where he was (yes, I talk to spiders) and I just took one of the fastest showers in history. Not because I was frightened but because I didn't want him to move and drown! I was able to catch him- he was pretty wet and appeared dead but I refused to do cpr on him. Happy ending! He came back to life on his own and is now a dry and happy resident in my garden of begonias!
Oh, HELL no. I would be out, probably OVER the shower curtain rod in a half second. No shower for me, and it would probably continue to run until someone came to shut it off and get rid of the damn spider.
I really don't like spiders, especially the large black hairy types. <Shudder>

Excellent! FYI, any spider big enough to see is usually female. I'm sure she thanks you for your support!
I saw this spider, a Red legged purseweb spider (Sphodros rufipes) crossing my driveway. First one I've ever seen in my 76 years. Research on the web indicated it was endangered due to Fireants.

I had to do some reading up on them. I have never seen one although I've lived in many areas in their range.
Sadly it seems that fire ants and swimming pools have taken a heavy toll on them.
Although they are a bit ugly they are a Mygalamorph, (North American Tarantula species) close relative of the common South West Tarantula. Considered harmless. Never been any reports of one ever biting anyone.
