Where I work there are tons of squirrels. When I walk through the walkways they're always looking at me through the big windows. One day, as I was opening the door and coming around the corner, a squirrel was looking right at me eye to eye as he was perched in the corner of the window on the ledge. Looked like he was muttering something to me under his breath...

Highly enjoyable thread! Here's a pic of my little friend here in northwestern Nebraska:

Had given the name "Rocky" until learning he is a she (& very pregnant in the photo).
Hence: "Rockette" is her name lately. .: ) . She'll now take an almond from my hand.

Years ago I fed squirrels in my living room after they climbed onto the balcony. One was definitely nursing.

Where I live, the chipmunks have been hibernating for a couple of months and I'm unlikely to see the little guys again 'til March or April. The squirrels are still very active though and take full advantage of my critter buffet.

When I moved to the boonies last year, I was delighted to find out we get regular nocturnal visits from flying squirrels as well. They're a hoot to watch. I've had up to 7 visit at a time. Two are bold enough to scamper up to me and demand a peanut.

Below is a pic of a red squirrel, the ones we see most frequently in the north.

And the next pic shows a flyer making a mockery of our "squirrel-proof" feeder.

They do look cute and all, chomping away on nuts. I can't speak for chipmunks but squirrels are um, can't think if "spiteful" is the right term for this, but we had neighbors also liking them and would feed them all the time, came back from a vacation and found them tearing apart their outdoor lawn furniture cushions.
Guess those squirrels were po'd that they weren't constantly getting fed. Naughty squirrels.

Not likely spiteful so much as happy to use some warm polyester fiberfill to cushion and insulate their nests.

Reminds me of this old news story. ---> Squirrel Steals Yellow Ribbons From Tree

People tied yellow ribbons around their trees as a patriotic symbol. Squirrels thought it was free bedding.

The title of this thread just brought this to mind:

Office Space (1999)
Milton Waddams: [talking on the phone] And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were married, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire...

That is cute.

To answer the OP, I do. I like both squirrels and chipmunks, and we have both here in New Jersey.
