Just like the Colorado lake being invaded by goldfish because some idiots let some loose when they didn't want to care for them anymore, Nile monitors are doing damage in Florida. I would absolutely lose it if I saw something like this in my yard.

I would have to presume that they will not be restricted to Florida. There are other Southern states that have similar environmental ecosystems. There are also plenty of cats and other mammals to feed on. Any lizard that size could possibly consume an unwatched baby. I am curious how they get along with Burmese pythons? I would presume that the pythons would consume smaller monitors and some monitors would consume smaller pythons - I wonder how our alligators fair in this new predatory environment? Perhaps Florida should ship the whole mess to Colorado to take care of their goldfish problem?

That's been going on for years in Florida... They eat everything and anything they want including you little pet dog.. The Everglades is full of exotic pets that some idiots just drop off on some back road.. and the canals in south Florida between exotic evasive fish and plat life..

Mosquito Lagoon just north of the Kennedy Space Center back in 2009--2011 had a Monitor Lizard killing birds.. and other aquatic wild life.. People just dispose of them like no big deal it's only " One" animal what harm will that do..... Now in the Glades you can go on Safari and kill giant snakes.. they take parties of 4--6 out by air boat.. and high power rifle to shoot the large snakes that people let loose.. these snakes kill 10--12 foot alligators.. The Florida Everglades are just full of these monsters..

I here they are gassing the Gold Fish with a nerve agent.. stuns them.. they float to the surface were they are scooped up by nets.. then carted off.

I don't think you mean nerve agent. From this link:The invasion of goldfish threatens Colorado Lake I quote - "Colorado Parks and Wildlife is collaborating with Boulder County to deal with the problem. Firstly, they are trying to find a way to remove the overpopulation of goldfish, which multiplied to over 3,000 to 4,000 fish. CPW officials currently consider two solutions — electro shocking the fish or draining the lake."

What I don't know about goldfish is if they can breed during the colder months? How long did it take to get their population up to the point it is now? Did this happen overnight or did it take years? I presume, of course I can be wrong, that the CPW is considering draining the lake because they fear that they might not get all of the eggs? We also do not know the rivers or streams that feed into the lake and the fear of the invasion spreading.

That is one of the problems with Florida's evasive species; they could not contain the monitors or pythons or whatever quickly. Also they could have been introduced at multiple points. Quickly containing the problem/s, when it was first introduced, would have been the easiest method of control - but now it is too late.

Those things are like the plague in Illinois. Theyve invaded so many rivers, destroying native wildlife. Sad.

I think, if a guy lived in the Glades, he could make some extra cash is lizard and snake leather, and ease off the gators. Since the snakes and lizards are non native , invasive, they shouldn't even be regulated on game regs. Skin them critters and make some boots, belts and scabbards.

Last year they held a snake hunt in the Everglades with prize money. Surprisingly they didn't capture that many snakes. According to the reports there are hundreds of thousands pythons in there yet the hunters failed to find them. Also surprising to me is that the alligators don't eat the eggs.
