wow!

I saw the time and thought '7 minutes. ok, I'll watch it a few minutes'.

Wish there was more. The power of that whirlpool was incredible, and it didn't look that big.

Thanks for posting that, suzy_q2010

You're welcome!

I have to wonder where that water - and all the stuff sucked into it - went. I presume that perhaps there is a sinkhole under the river.

Berry College in Rome, GA lost an entire lake to sinkholes. They tried to plug them to save the lake, which was a campus landmark, but eventually had to give up.

I recall when a drilling rig in a South Louisiana lake drilled into a Salt mine. In a matter of minutes the lake and drilling rig were gone.

Often when these occur it is because there is a large cavern benetht the lake and the water finaly broke through.

I found a youtube video of the Louisiana Lake Peigneur Disaster in 1980

I was living in Louisiana at the time that occurred. Although I lived in Shreveport I drove to Baton Rouge, Lafayette and South at least once a week and often passed by lake Peigneur

I did not see the actual whirl pool but saw the remains of the lake soon after.

I found this follow up article that basically says the same thing: Latvian whirlpool – Who pulled the plug? | Doubtful News. They state that there are abundant limestone deposits in the area.
