That is a great idea and one that I hope that others try. One thing about his furniture is that you would be buying furniture with a history. Perhaps he should consider, if he doesn't already do it, it to enclose pictures of the living 'tree' before it is cut.
We also have furniture with a history. We had one large black Cherry Tree that had a damaged base. I took pictures of the tree before I cut it down. Then I took pictures of sawing it into long logs. Then we had one company bring over a portable saw mill and we took pictures of them cutting the logs into lumber. Then I hauled the lumber to one of our Mennonite carpenters in PA and he made tables, a corner cupboard, and a wash stand for us out of the lumber. I then taped copies of the pictures to the bottom of each piece as well as a business card from the Mennonite carpenter.
Everybody likes antiques; well these 'living furniture pieces' and my logs to furniture pieces have their own history. You can see what they were before they were.
