Hey all,
I am interested in getting an altimeter tracker/logger for my ski trips. I'm having trouble finding one, I might be searching in the wrong direction.
I'm looking to track my altitude gain, as well as logging it, so when I go back up the mountain that it all adds up for a total elevation gain.
I have seen altimeter watches, but I don't think they add total elevation gain. I could be wrong.
Any input is appreciated!
Thanks!
Jordan
I acknowledge that I am not directly answering your question about an altimeter, and this method may not be as precise, however you can use this as a rough method of calculating altitude gain until you do get an altimeter. If you get a topographic map and use the contours to determine elevation gain from the bottom of your slope to the top (should be very simple), you can then multiply by the number of times you've done it to get the rough elevation gain. I've been quite precise with this method when compared to an altimeter reading.
Caltopo.com is a good, free source for topographic maps.
Just get the free Google Earth program and zero in on any mountain that you want to ski: Google Earth The elevation is shown on the bottom right side of the page. It seems pretty accurate.
