I just happened to look out my kitchen window about ten minutes ago (11am) and saw my dog sound asleep on his doggie bed up against the wire side wall of the kennel. ......Now comes the "fun-part".
A W T Buck in full velvet (5x5),was just slowly grazing on the wild grasses and he was getting very close to the wire kennel (10x20'). When he got to within about 20 inches of the sleeping dog, he "sensed" his presence and snorted Very loudly and jumped backwards like on a spring-board.
The dog awoke at the same time and came off his bed/mattress like a catapult!!!!!!
Great fun to see things like this happen out here "in the Boonies".

LOL. Too bad you didn't have the chance to video tape it.

I had a whitetail deer almost give me a heart attack once. It was a full moon, so I had the lights turned out so that I could see the moon shining on the snowy hillside and the creek at the bottom of the hill. I went into another part of the house for some reason, and when I walked back to look out the patio door, I was looking directly into the face of an animal only two feet away. For some reason a deer was on the patio, and just happened to be looking in the door at that moment. Scared the living hell out of me! I know it was only a deer, but you know, when it's unexpected...

I don't think she was expecting it either, judging from how fast she vacated the patio and disappeared into the pines.
