I took the dog on a walk this morning and saw a couple of Turkey Vultures flying overhead, a mockingbird that stayed with us for awhile, and a flock of Eastern bluebirds moving around. And you?
Red Tail Hawks, Bald Eagles, crows, mourning doves, sparrows. The Red Tail Hawks don't look that big until they swoop down about a foot away, then they're huge.
My usual feeder "customers": cardinals, juncos, titmice, red-bellied woodpecker, downy woodpecker, chickadees, nuthatches, finches and sparrows of various sorts, and lots of doves, starlings and grackles. If I had to name which one was "first" this morning, I would go with a junco, if I am recalling correctly.
My first was Male Annas Hummingbird guarding his feeder from the other 2 that hang out here. Followed by song sparrow, Oregon Juncos, White Crowned Sparrows, Lesser Golfinches
Sea Gulls. While out walking the dog today. It's nice living by the ocean but I do miss the birds you have listed above, especially the cardinals. Wow, someone even saw bluebirds!
I live in a 'dead zone' in the (urban) desert about 5 miles between a forested mountain range and a wooded river valley, so my pickin's are slim, but I saw what I usually see which is some house finches, sparrows, and crows.
A house finch was the very first bird I saw this year.
The first bird species I saw that I paid attention to, was two turkeys that strolled by as we were eating lunch. They were the first turkeys I have seen in my back yard.
Cardinals, bluebirds, sapsucker, brown creepers, white-breasted nuthatch, red-bellied woodpecker, flicker, and, to my surprise, an Eastern phoebe.
