So, this is an "eye of the beholder question".

What, IYO, is the most scenic and beautiful mountain in our great country? For me it has to be Mt. Shasta hands down. Second would be Mt. Rainier. I really like Rainier because it has such a high prominence, but Shasta has that second caldera/cone on the side which makes it interesting.

I found Rocky Mountain National Park to be stunningly beautiful. If you drive up Trail Ridge Road above the treeline you cross over the continental divide. The highest elevation is 12,183. It was hard to breathe up there.

I'm probably prejudiced, but I think Mt. Rainier is incredibly beautiful, all 14,410 feet of it. Especially when the wildflowers are in bloom, but it's gorgeous all year.

Mt Rainier and Mt Shasta are certainly nice, but they rate a distant 3rd and 4th at best, imho. Mt McKinley (aka Denali), for it's sheer size and snow coverage certainly beats them, but for the most beautiful in the U.S. I've got to cast my vote for the Grand Tetons. (Nope, no prejudice here.)

I like the Grand Tetons, also, probably because they are similar to the Organs. So I see a pattern in my preferences...

In the east, I'm going to go with Mount Katahdin. But I am biased.
