There was a turtle at the front door. So I googled "turtle at my front door" to see if I should leave it or take it to the pond. And lots of people have posted that they have had turtles at their front doors.

Why do turtles do this?

It was trying to get in.

It was making scuffing sounds against the door.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was following its internal compass. My bet is, if you picked it up and put it on the other side of the house, pointing in the same direction it was headed, it would continue on like your house was never there blocking it.

I had a turtle (or the same kind of turtle) come every year to lay eggs in the highest part of my yard, which was above a creek. It never actually came to my door but it was very near the house. If you have water nearby (maybe the pond you mention) the turtle might just be looking for the highest spot for her eggs. If it were me, I would move the turtle to a high sunny spot in the yard and see what happens.
