You all heard the saying: Dumb as a duck! They do not sleep that good at night; especially during mating season and they are hard to spot on our roads - until it is too late. That is the one reason skunks are hit so often; they are black on blacktop and they only move at night.
On the other hand the smartest road crossers/users are crows. They use our roads to scavenge for food and you hardly ever see a dead crow on the road. They have good timing. On the other hand hawks/owls are short/narrow sighted and once they set their sights on prey; they will ignore approaching vehicles.
armadillos .. i`ve never seen a live one yet every street in north BAMA has one on the side of the road on its back with all 4 feet in the air ...have`nt seen a rabbit in years dead or alive ...
I have never encountered one, but I have read they actually jump UP and destroy your radiator.
I don't think I've ever seen roadkill rabbit. Hmm. Maybe the 'yotes get them right away?
Pets and deer are the saddest.
Canadian Geese are horrible. They always go in rows with their 7 goslings and take like 20 minutes for a crossing and hold up traffic for 15 minutes. They literally do not care if cars are there honking at them. They also liked to hang around near a highway exit by an old house and would often flap up into traffic right as people were coming down the off ramp.
Peacocks are only slightly less annoying, up there with Sandhill cranes...
