Great!! I'magonnahaftatrythat! And show my dad that link too... he's been battling squirrels since '76. I mean.. he's tried all sorts of ideas and contraptions, it's an ongoing funny story in the family now.
There is a capsaicin pepper-based oil you can add to the seed. Doesn't bother the birds, but teaches the squirrel that your seed tastes terrible. I've used it in various locations; seems to help deter them. You can get it through websites that offer wild bird feeding supplies. I started using it because my dog was Hoovering up the spilled seed on the ground and it disagreed with her. She stopped after that, but the faces she made when tasting the pepper were pretty entertaining.
A raccoon will simply knock the feeder down and there will be a feeding frenzy for the squirrels, opossum and anything else hungry.
That does look highly entertaining but let the birds fend for themselves and the problem squirrels will generally go away....
