A man attempting to pet a moose on a Colorado road ended up getting only a scare when the large animal charged at him.
Amanda Danielson recorded video Thursday on a street in Frisco when a man claimed he pets moose all the time and attempted to demonstrate with a nearby animal.
Everyone was telling me I was nuts because I swore I saw a moose cross the road in front of me, right here in city limits.
I was starting to doubt myself because it was very early morning, still dark, foggy & drizzly ... but I just knew it wasn't a deer. Our deer here are very urbanized; they use the sidewalks & they cross at crosswalks (I swear).
Plus, if deer do get startled & bolt across a road, they sort of go: BOING BOING ... This guy had that casual shoulder-role lope going on; not a deer.
Can someone be that ignorant? Who approaches wild animals about that are about 3 times the size of a man...and are known for charging at humans???

think along these lines and get into a major pickle. Don't mess around with Moose.
Males are usually safe out of rutting season. Cows with calves are not. There are moose in Bear River State Park in Wyoming who are almost tame because there are many people there and hunting is prohibited. When I lived in that area I took my dog there so that he could meet people as well as other dogs. He was almost four when I got him and he was afraid of both people and other dogs. He did very well and actually enticed a young bull moose to touch noses with him on several occasions. There was a cow, however, who had two calves, different ages; she stationed herself on the edge of the river. Both my dog and I knew instinctively that she did not wish to make either canine or human friends. It's necessary to use common sense.

Ha! I once had to call my employer and let them know I might be late that morning because there was a moose standing on my front porch, and I couldn't get out of the house until it left. They accepted this (true) explanation without question. Only in Alaska...
