Well, I guess this will be the last post on watching the seagulls. There is one dead chick on the upper roof and I haven't seen the other chick on the lower roof since I took the pictures above. But those aren't the only ones gone.

It's been a couple weeks and there are no chicks at all. None on the walls around the building roofs here. None flying. The adults are going out in the mornings and coming back in the evenings, but without chicks.

This is very unusual and even if I didn't see the ones I was originally watching, I would see the other chicks around. It's like something happened to all of them at one time. I don't know if it was the smoke we had for so long or the hot/cold/hot/cold weather we had that may have sickened them. Maybe there's a disease that killed off all the young ones, leaving the older ones alive. Maybe their parents found something to feed them that poisoned them. I don't know.

But this is the first time in four years of watching them that this has happened and I'm so sorry to tell you guys the news. However, in 6 months or so, I'll be living in the boonies and maybe there will be raccoons or coyotes or God forbid, even bears or cougars there I can post about.

Meantime, thank you everyone for reading and I'm sorry things didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped.

I guess that's life in a nutshell - on your rooftops. Some live, some die. We can wonder about the effects of all this smoke, though. You never know how it might have affected the food chain.

So you're moving. Lots of stress packing up, etc. We're going through it, too. Sounds like it should be fun, but then it isn't.

It is life in a nutshell. I used to get so attached to the raccoon kits and then one day one would be missing, and then another. I don't know if coyotes or cars got them, but it would break my heart.

I won't be packing up much. Just all the stuff I've managed to cram in one room.

I need to save up for a couple months to get a shed to store my stuff in, then I'm moving it and me to the lot I bought. I'll be living in my car while I save more money to get a trailer and other stuff there. I'm really looking forward to it.

Up here in the woods it's either raccoons that get the smaller stuff, or coyotes that get the raccoons and bunnies (and cats).

Sounds like you're traveling light. Good for you.

Thank you.

I was originally going to move onto my land last August. Then I put about $3000 into my car and decided to stay here and save up some more money for a shed before I moved. Last week I had to get my status for subsidized housing reviewed. If they think the land I own is an asset, the may decide I don't qualify for subsidized housing anymore. If that's the case, my rent for a single room and a shared bathroom will more than double, and I'll be out of here the next month. So everything is up in the air until I get their decision. The reason I hate renting. LOL
