I had seen four previously, on separate days. Then today we got a bonanza. Must be hustling to find a mate before the rains hit.

Aphonopelma behlei
Aphonopelma marxi
Aphonopelma vogelei

According to Wikipedia, these three species are now lumped together under Aphonopelma marxi.

Oh Egads! I just moved into a new house (new to me) and found out that they had a real brown recluse problem. I've had the pest control people out to treat the house and they will continue this for 1 yr and it's helped but there are probably about 30 of them stuck on glue boards right now. I don't like it but I don't lose sleep over it or anything but... I don't think I could even sleep with THOSE ones around!

Awwww, tarantulas mind their own business and they are outdoors, not inside.

I have heid a Chilean Rose and had it walk on my arm. Some people keep them as pets.

My roommate in college had a pet Tarantula. We used to take it to the bars with us to meet girls. It worked.

I vividly remember seeing a tarantula "migration" while driving to a new job in a place I'd never lived in before. There were hundreds of them marching across the road in the same direction. Sadly, many had been deliberately squashed by other cars.

First time I visited west Texas, I saw herds of them migrating across roads to find mates. Although I dodged most of them, I must have run over a few. Other drivers had done so, too. It was hard to avoid when sometimes they occupied the breadth of the two lanes.

R.I.P.

That was also where, a solid half-mile down the road, a large black thing would be sitting smack in the center, all wavery to my eyes in the shimmering heat. Dog? Wolf?

Nope...a huge raven.

If it was not black but similar height and skinny, it was a giant jackrabbit. All ears, sinewy legs, and bugeyes.

Oh I'm sure it's hard to avoid them all. I just noticed some that were squashed at the edge of the pavement where a car would have had to make a deliberate swerve to hit them. A colleague also commented that some local teens made a contest out of how many they could "score" per mile of road.

I liked what this man said at the end of his video. It's only two minutes long.
