We have a tufted titmouse which has been hopping around on a bush next to our house, then intermittingly flying into the window next to it and pecking at it. This has gone on now for two days. It seems to be a young bird, and sometimes a larger one joins it on the bush..maybe as if to cajole it away from constant pecking at the window. Weird.

Don't male birds do that sometimes, thinking they see competition?
Last spring we had a bird (I think it was a cardinal) who kept battering away at the rear view mirror on my car. He finally quit after awhile.

I think I'll give him another day or so, then try taping some newspaper to the window so he can't see any reflection.

I realize this is an old thread, but it came up when I searched.

We have the same scenario here. A tufted titmouse is driving us a bit batty. He is hopping around the hydrangea bushes outside our family room windows, and pecking away at the glass. This has been going on for close to 3 weeks, although I don't know if it's the same bird. I thought maybe he saw his reflection as a possible mate, but he's been relentless even though he must have a headache by now after banging away at the glass for so long.

I can't do the newspaper idea, our windows are very large, and I don't even have a newspaper. I'm thinking of attaching some bells to the bushes.

I've gotten some pretty good photos of tom turkeys because they will posture at their own reflection. Had one that used to peck at the chrome on one of my old trucks. Fly at it. Try to spur his reflection. Neat to see.

I believe Katie1 has it right. He's trying to tell that "other guy" in the window to take a hike.

Deer netting, like this one from Amazon, works great: http://www.amazon.com/Easy-Gardener-.../dp/B000A286YU. You can also buy it from Home Depot or Lowes. It is 7'X100' - so you can cut it with scissors to any size you need. I just take clothes pins and clip it to the edge of my roof shingles and then a few stapes into the bottom of the window sill. But you could tape it or whatever. It is the only way I could get rid of my attacking robins. The netting is almost invisible from a distance.
