Which cities are located in the most beautiful natural setting? Whether it be lakes, coasts, rivers, hills, mountains?

They can be as big or small as you want, but I would maybe suggest 1-200k people to remove ski resorts and quaint mountain/lakeside villages.

From places i've been personally these cities come to mind

Vancouver, Canada
Wellington, New Zealand
Sydeny, Australia

What do you think?

Dubrovnik. We went kayaking around the city walls- one of the best excursions we ever took.

Was it one of the best excursions because of the natural scenery of the city? Hills and sea, for example? Or was it due to the physical beauty of Dubrovnik?

I was planning to go when it was still Yugoslavia. I had to cancel because the troubles broke out. I still haven't made it back. It is definitely on my list.

I'm intrigued by brazilian coastal cities such as:
Florianopolis
Porto Alegre
Santos
Rio
Vitoria
Salvador
Maceiò
Sao Luis
Joao Pessoa
etc..

they are cities setting in a environment made of lagoons, hiils, cliffs, lakes, tropical beaches, when nature, scenery and urbanization dramatically mix together.
Everytime you turn your head you see a different sight...
It would be cool to live there, they are the exact opposite of flat boring cities...

Other cities are those from Ukraine/Russia that lies on huge river:
Kiev
Dnipropetrovsk
Samara
Kazan
Volgograd
Krasnojarsk
you name it...

these big rivers are definitely a plus for these big cities, many times there are also beaches, islands and islettes, tall bridges that connect the different parts and in the immediate outskirts just unspoiled wilderness, cool.

Sydney has a curfew on flights during the hours of darkness, so anytime I fly in its either sunset or sunrise.... I've lost count of the times I've landed at dawn, but never fails to impress.
