We've been visited by a couple of large non-venomous snakes but they don't stay very long. I wish they did. We have a rodent problem and I'd much rather have a harmless rat-eating snake on the premises than have to pay the exterminator.

One of the snakes was of a species that eats rattlesnakes. While rattlesnakes have value too, I'd rather not have one around my home.

Exactly. We've had a problem with rattlesnakes here in the last few years. I hike everyday & have twice now, in the past week, seen a Great Basin Gopher Snake; which is a species that hunts rattlers. I welcome seeing those mustard yellow/green snakes with the black pattern on them . They are pretty big snakes but they don't bother humans at all, in fact they make a quick getaway when they see a person.

I can avoid rattlesnakes altogether by going above 9,500 ft in elevation but that's not always practical because it involves a half hour drive to get that high up. Maybe 1/3 of my hikes involve that altitude currently.

I used to be afraid of the Wolf Spiders we have here until I learned that they are natural predators of the Brown Recluse. Now I would be happy to have a Wolf Spider as a tenant.

Wolf spiders are cool! The first time I saw one I had a "what the heck is THAT?" moment.

Omg, that's nightmare fuel! I'm deathly afraid of spiders, I don't think I could ever sleep in that house again.
