There's been a groundhog hanging around which has dug a small opening under the foundation of my house and into the crawl space.
It was suggested I use cayenne pepper around the opening to discourage him. I placed a flat stick like a stir stick for paint and laid it across the opening so I know if the stir stick has been moved, he's been in and out. I placed a good amount of cayenne pepper on the stick to discourage him.

For several days now, the stir stick hasn't been moved, but the cayenne pepper is all gone in the morning when I check it. What critter could find the pepper tasty? I've seen opossums walking around too and I'm certain there must be mice around outside that forage for food at night.
I've never heard of an animal which enjoys really hot pepper and licks it all up. I feel like I'm feeding someone a tasty treat instead of discouraging them. Any ideas?

Spray predator urine concentrate in the burrow entrance. Supposedly coyote is the best, but fox may persist longer. There aren't many critters as rank as a dog fox!

I have a groundhog under my deck. First I tried Epson salts and that didn’t work. Next I poured diluted ammonia with a dash of dawn on the deck where it was hiding out. So far so good.

It’s the second day after using ammonia on the deck which seeped through to the ground. I haven’t seen the groundhog.

UPDATE; The ammonia didn’t work. I had to resort to a conibear trap. It took him out overnight. Bait it with cantaloupe. For some strange reason they love cantaloupe.
