Considering it's "all over" their roof I have to wonder if it's birds?

Canadian geese eat berries and poop purple when they do. Used to have that problem with my car in NY when I lived on a golf course.

They are all over my roof

You can post a picture on numerous free picture hosting sites and post the link, but since you never came back after posting this why would you even ask?

Squirrels and raccoons both eat berries, and both climb

To the OPs question, my guess would be birds of some sort. Of course, that's assuming the scat is the size of squirrel scat and not the size of a squirrel!
It's evolutionary for the plant. This is very common. It's how they expand their range and don't become extinct.

Be very careful. Racoons poop is dangerous. Read up on it on Google.
This exactly. Had the darn raccoons before myself. They make a huge mess of it too.
The raccoon poop worm will invade the human brain...serious stuff.
