OK so I'm putting this under the Nature forum because after all they are bugs but I was wondering whether I should put it in the Paranormal forum.

Seems to me that since I moved to the South (somebody told me that anything south of Memphis is the Deep South -- don't think so, but anyway) I have encountered many strange and evil looking bugs. I mean alien looking, other worldly creatures. In reading this forum for awhile I have seen that many parts of the country apparently have a bug problem. Areas I thought did not have a problem!

So my question is: how many states in the U.S. have evil bugs? I mean truly a BUG problem okay?! I will go first: Alabama. I am from California. There just ain't very many bugs in California compared to Alabama!

Gear up lovelies! Bug season's a comin'!

Bugs are not evil and the vast majority of them do not harm people nor are a problem. BTW, Alabama is indeed the deep South and has a warm humid climate so will have more bugs throughout the year than let's say CA. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. It doesn't sound like you did much homework before moving there.

Gee thanks for your positive response! And for not answering the question. It's supposed to be a fun thread or did you disable emojis?

Minor quibble: California probably has the greatest diversity of insects of any state. You just don't find them in metro or agri areas that make up so much of the state.

All bugs are fun to me, except the bloodsucking and venomous ones. I always look forward to bug season.

I presume you mean in California? Out in the rural areas, deserts, forests, chaparrel etc.

I'm from California, never seen bugs as crazy looking as the ones here in the South.

OP, I don't know how many bugs you'd seen before the move. Some are strange indeed, like the praying mantis -- but I've seen one on my window in MA. How about taking some pix of the "evil" bugs and finding a way of posting them here?

I've got some pics from last spring and summer but have trouble posting pics on this site. Perhaps I will search similar bugs and provide links.

Basically what I'm looking for is funny stories regarding bug encounters.

I have been fortunate to live a bug-free life, aside from occasional lady bugs, and who cannot feel some affection for tiny little creatures with polka-dots? There was one giant mosquito in my house the other day however and he met the fate due him
