Tasmanian devils get their name from the creepy, evil sounds they make.
Kookaburras sound evil to me as well.
Spotted hyenas are definitely creepy when they do their vocalizations especially when they are in large groups.
But of all the creepy animal sounds, I think parrots take the cake. Sure they can be cute and funny, but also downright scary. Imagine hearing this alone in the woods at night:
I'm living in a house with a parrot right now that makes a sound like someone knocking on the door. At first I actually thought someone was knocking, it's that realistic.
Peacocks can sometimes sound as if someone is screaming "Help!"
The first time I heard a rabbit scream was pretty startling.
Sleeping in a tree house in Costa Rica and hearing a pack of howler monkeys approach swinging through the trees was definitely eerie. You can hear them from three miles away so it was a prolonged nightmare hearing them coming. Sounded like the hounds of hell.
When I was a kid, we had neighbors that had 2 macaw parrots. A blue one and a red one. Sometimes they would be in cages outside. They could imitate my mom's voice, calling us home. Many times I would go home because my mom was calling me...just to find out it was the parrots. lol
Wow. That video was difficult to watch. The sounds the hyena was making at the end chilled me to the bone. Hope it won't keep me awake tonight! That's the creepiest animal sound I've ever heard.
I slept at the Philadelphia Zoo one night. It was a Girl Scout event, and I was a leader. The sound of giant turtles having sex is one of the weirdest sounds ever. They bellow.
A somewhat eerie but comforting sound is hearing a loon call in the night. This is a short video about it, but you hear the initial call right at the start.
