I always thought that cats in heat and fighting tomcats are pretty darn eerie sounding.

When I was young there were peacocks in the nearby orange grove. Sounded at night like a person screaming “help!” Took quite awhile to accept that it wasn’t a person in distress.

A red female fox in the middle of the night screaming like a woman. Add that I thought it was the nutty neighbors, and it was pretty eerie!

I think loons make a hauntingly beautiful, and yes, eerie sound. We camp sometimes near Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks and at night their calls are kind of chilling, yet peaceful.

I have seen brown bears in Alaska, from closer than desirable, but fortunately, I haven't heard these sounds... which translates roughly as "You're beginning to p--- me off!!!"
