Not necessarily the most "intimidating," but rather the most "eerie," ie, the most strange, unsettling, bone-chilling. I think it would have to be the spotted hyena. If you doubt me, go to the 4:55 mark of the following video and watch for yourself.
Wow. That video was difficult to watch. The sounds the hyena was making at the end chilled me to the bone. Hope it won't keep me awake tonight! That's the creepiest animal sound I've ever heard.

The "laughing" and "whooping" sounds hyenas make I also find to be very eerie.

Because of their wide range, large population and comfort in developed areas, red foxes are the most common animal described as making a sound like a woman screaming. Foxes, fishers, bobcats and cougars also make similar sounds.
