I add fresh (cooler) water to my birdbaths each day. About once a week or so I clean them real good. Yesterday there was more activity at the new one than I have had. Last year there were 10 to 15 blue birds each day taking a bath in my older birdbath. Yesterday there were a few in each birdbath. I even had deer drinking out of my birdbath last year when it was super dry. I had a game camera aimed at it. One night a huge buck turned the birdbath over.
Just an FYI, speaking of bird baths. You really should change the water in a bird bath every day, especially if the bath is well-used it can really be a good disease-spreader. In hot weather when my bird bath gets A LOT of use, I change the water, 2 or even 3 times/day. Just get a hose, hose out the old water and hose down the bath really good, and replace the water.
I also clean them out regularly because I don't want mosquitoes hatching in them.
