I was at Chrissy Field in San Francisco today, and saw this amazing bird near the wildlife preserve... it's obviously a Heron, but I'm not really sure if it's a blue, white, or something else? Anyone know? This thing was HUGE - I'm talking a good 2-3 feet tall!! Are these typically native to Northern California? I've seen plenty of Herons near the water, but never one quite this large.

Yes...Blue Heron or he could be a Gray(hard to tell in the pic)...here in Texas n the coast, they are quite common....I live on the water and they, along with White Herons are in my yard often. Here are some pics:






These are some of my favorite birds...those along with the many Pelicans we have.
