Looks like a good character in a science fiction movie.

Star Wars Cantina

- FOXNews.com

A submarine exploring the ocean's depths recently returned with an unexpected visitor: a crablike critter that has left many readers startled and horrified.

FOXNews.com - Terrifying Sea Critter Hauled from Ocean's Depths

Back in the 1980's, a large crustacean was discovered in the Gulf of Mexico. The captured specimens were sent to the aqarium in New York. It looked like a roach without wings. Probably very similar to these.

Go to the ocean. Wait until the tide goes out. Start flipping over rocks. You will see hundreds of these things (albeit about 1 cm to 2 cm in length). This 'creature' is an arthropod. All arthropods have an exoskeleton that they must shed in order to grow. It may be possible, predation aside, that if left alone, these things can grow that big.

By the way, if you think that this thing is scary, pick up any book on marine invertebrates and you will see that it is not that bad looking.

First thing I thought of was the flea from hell. But then I saw it from the side and thought it looked disgusting.

BTW, I wonder if they take precautions when bringing deep seas critters up like they do with people when they've been in deep water.

Who cares what it looks like, what I want to know is whether it tastes like lobster.
