I have been lately looking into getting T-Mobile because of their good deals and support for unlocked phones. I went into a T-Mobile store out of state and asked them if I could sign up even if I live in Nebraska. They said as long as you're in a coverage area it's fine. Most of NE is listed in a coverage area for T-mobile, at least with voice anyway. When I look at 3G Data coverage...it's mainly just Lincoln and Omaha. On the same map it shows where I live in Columbus is data coverage through a partner. I wonder if that means for data T-mobile uses someone else's towers. I still haven't totally figured out if I can use T-Mobile here. It would be nice to get away from the evils of the cell phone titans like AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. T-Mobile is the only one that you can get plans without a contract.

AT&T commercial on TV now says, "Coverage of 97% of the people".
Meaning not 97% of the land and when you consider that we have more cows then people in Nebraska, we will never get full coverage.
Far as I know Version has the most 3G coverage in NE, but coverage does not mean high speed.

I live in Oklahoma and travel a lot. T-Mobile is not my greatest friend. I loved them when I first had them. But now... dropped calls and crappy phones. Network coverage must be available for any data, and do not expect to get to go into the office to do anything other than enroll and pay- all changes have to be done over the phone and takes a lengthy time. However, the call center reps are FANTASTIC! When my contract is over I am gone. But with no contract try it out for yourself, I just wouldn't buy a pricey phone.

Personally, it's been my experience that Viaero has the best coverage in Nebraska. It's a small company out of Fort Morgan, CO but they share towers on AT&T/etc. (ie, an unlocked iPhone works with them).
More importantly, because they're a "rural" based company, that's their focus; bringing service to rural areas. They're always putting up new towers.

EVERYONE covers the interstate, the metro areas and so on, but the question is who covers the other areas the best. Having had Verizon, US Cellular, Altell, and Viaero, there's absolutely no question in my mind that Viaero is best.

Well, I can definitely tell you that Sprint isn't worth it in Nebraska. I signed up for a contract with Sprint, got the latest and greatest phone and it barely works with cell phone reception. It's not the phone either. I'm not even in that much of a rural place compared to some people. I am in Columbus which is an hour 1/2 drive to either Lincoln or Omaha. In town it will drop from full bars to 1 bar. I can't even load a youtube video up in town. Where I live just a few miles in the country I have 1 bar and absolutely nothing. I'm taking the phones back and cancelling contract. In my experience, Verizon Wireless still has the best coverage, especially in rural areras. I've been out in the middle of nowhere on my Verizon netbook and still got 2 bars and loaded a video up.

Looks like T-mobile, AT&T and Sprint aren't the way to go in Nebraska.

My sister-in-law had T-Mobile through Denver and we she would come home to Lincoln she would NEVER get service. We would have to call her bf (who had a phone from a bigger company) to get ahold of her.
And my father-in-law has Sprint and they suck. He lives in Airpark (a suburb type community in Lincoln) and barely gets service there.
