The other night I had the great experience of going to one of only 2 drive in movie theaters left in Nebraska, and the only full time one. Neligh, Nebraska is a tiny town about 30 minutes west of Norfolk. There's not a lot in Neligh but a big piece of nostalgia. It is a small capacity drive in theater pretty much untouched since it opened in 1952. The concession stand serves an excellent full menu with a flat-iron grill and fair prices...something you could never get at a regular movie theater. All the stars were out and very bright and I even saw some shooting stars while watching the movie. It was a wonderful movie experience. It's too bad most of the drive in theaters in Nebraska disappeared.

Yep its pretty special to the town that is for sure. They close the indoor theater during good weather and operate the Drive-In.

Stop back any time, next time yell first, I will buy you a cup of coffee or a coke.

I love Neligh and used go to the drive regularly in the summer.

My first visit this season was bad. A guy parked a minivan on the screen side of the
concession stand and had music playing so loudly you had no choice but to listen to it till the movie started.
As the guy worked his way threw a twelve pack of beer he started yelling at his kids when they weren't behaving.
It was bad enough to have been forced to listen to his choice of music and him yelling at the kids
but as he drank more he started swearing more at the kids.

I went into the concession stand to let them know and they said there was nothing they could do about it and wouldn't even ask him to tone it down.

When I was a wee lad (the late 70s) Omaha had what must have been a dozen drive in theaters.
Sad to see it go the way of the dodo and frankly I'm surprised that it has.
With more people than ever having cars and with movies being more expensive than ever, you would think that drive ins would be good business.

Sigh.

We just went to the drive in last weekend out here where I live now in Sacramento and the place was packed to the gills. It also seemed like they hadnt renovated in 40 years, but that's part of the charm.
