Trying to do some research on fireflies. Most of the information i have read says that fireflies are not found west of the middle of Kansas, but the more research I do, I find that there are sightings west of that. I have found sightings around the Dalton area, but that was from one person. just wanted to know if anybody else has seen viable populations of fireflies in Western Nebraska. Thanks for your time and answers.

I'm not even that far west (but west of the magical 100th meridian), and I say "no."

You see the rare firefly in wet years, but they are few and far between. When we lived in the tri-city area they were abundant, but not "out west."

You'll see fireflies in the panhandle, but as ITOT said, it won't be every year.

In Grand Island at night, they are everywhere. And I mean EVERYWHERE. You can barely open the door to the house without some flying in. In the panhandle I would doubt there to be any.
