We just moved here and trying to figure out some things. Where can we mail a post office package ...do they have local post offices/branches, or do we need to go downtown for this? Also, how about library branches on NW side?

There are lots of chain restaurants here, so are there any good places to eat with are owned by local people?

Pizza, Zio's (ok), and Oscars (ok)...anywhere else we might check out?

Why are tornado sirens going off so long on Saturdays? Is this normal?

Thanks to all for previous help.

On the northwest side of the STATE??
Harrison.

On the other hand, if you're making a reference to one of the cities, I can't even begin to help.

Without knowing a general idea of where you are (NW doesn't tell me much) I can't say for sure what's close to you or not.

There are smaller post offices all around town. There's one in Papio just past Giles, one at about 120th and L. You can go to the USPS website and find a location close to you.

Again, there are a few libraries spread out across town. There's on in Papio....I want to say it's on or near 96th and Giles, but don't quote me on that. I know it's around there somewhere.

The tornado sirens go off every 1st Saturday of the month, testing the system. At least that's what I've been told. Seemed logical to me so I never questioned it. Someone else may have more information on that though....again, depending on what area of town you are in.

In addition to the other recommendations, if you like Buffalo Wings then go try Buffalo Company. (96th and L and on Saddle Creek Rd) Best wings in town, IMHO.

Yes it's normal. A free Saturday morning wake up call for new Omaha residents.
Locate a post office (enter your zip code) - http://usps.whitepages.com/post_office
Omahahonors listed some good places to eat. Google the names to see where they're located, or map it if you're not familiar with Omaha streets.
