Hello friends,

I'm relocating to Gordon or Chadron to work in Pine Ridge, SD: which city is best to live in?

Chadron, hands down. More services, shopping, entertainment, etc

Hey thanks for responding...I didnt think anyone would reply. I'm still waiting on the companies' decision to send me out there. How do people react to 'outsiders'?

Chadron, being a college town, is always getting outsiders. They're welcomed with open arms, for the most part.
Gordon is more insular, so they're a little more stand-offish, but it's not like you'd be unwelcome, either.

.... Took the words straight out of my mouth.

.... Having lived in Chadron for over half a decade, yes: you will be welcomed... but know that, while it's an exceptionally fine community with just about everything one needs, you can move there, be an upstanding citizen for 20 or more years & you will still be an outsider. Funny little town. That said, some of the finest folks I've ever met anywhere live in Chadron & the area. No regrets. Truthfully, am almost homesick for the area. Gordon- as itsMeFred indicates, it's a good place though not as open-minded. Personally speaking, it's beyond conservative. Pine Ridge: beyond liberal, on the rez, bone-shattering poverty & one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation @ 80%+, basically third world.

.... Yes, Chadron... am hoping to get back there one day before the groundhogs be bringin' me my mail. You'll do fine there should you choose to live there, quite affordable compared to where you are now living. Just go easy, smile & stick out your hand while introducing yourself. Things will be just ducky.
