For those of you familiar with the job market for elementary education teachers (K-5) in or near Lincoln, NE, would it be difficult for a teacher with 5+ yrs experience to find a job like many other states/cities in the US?

Besides Lincoln Public Schools, what are some other school districts near Lincoln?

Where are you living now? Do you know much about the area? It looks like York, Nebraska may have some openings. It's approximately 45 minutes from Lincoln. They have an ad on this link for a few positions, it says, Elementary School Elementary teacher positions (K-5th grade levels to be determined). Since they are also looking for an Assistant Principal and may fill that internally that would create an opening. If that isn't too far away for you, its worth inquiring about.

Assistant Principal, Elementary Teacher Positions, 6th-8th Grade Social Studies, K-5 Media Specialist, Sponsorships and Coaching Job in York ,Nebraska - Omaha World Herald

Beatrice is about 48 minutes south of Lincoln, Syracuse is a small town between Nebraska City and Lincoln. Waverly is close, Seward is about 30 miles away. You may find something in the smaller towns before you could in Lincoln. If you have an out of state teaching certificate and plan to relocate you may want to look into how long it takes to get a Nebraska certificate.

You might keep checking back on this site, they seem to keep adding jobs. If you need any help reference some of the small towns, I know about some of them.

You can sign up for Lincoln Public Schools job alerts on this page, its on the right hand side. That might be helpful too. Best of luck to you.

In the past the one problem with looking for a teaching job IN Lincoln was they had a fairly stable population of teachers who did not move much and a teachers college pumping out new teachers. But Lincoln has been changing and expanding their schools in recent years so there may be more opportunity, plus all the parochial schools in the city, and the outlying communities.

Salaries may be lower compared to some areas and I don't have links for jobs but you can probably find some opportunities.

If you have not seen it yet I will include the link for the state "schools report card" both so you can know how any disctrict you hear about might be doing and so to let you know the names of some of the districts.

As a former LPS teacher (now SAHM), I just wanted to add my two cents. In Lincoln, Lincoln Public Schools is really the only employer (unless you don't mind the incredibly low salaries of parochial schools). That being said, LPS can be VERY hard to get into unless you're a HS teacher with a hard to fill focus (i.e. science, math). I've known people (great teachers) who have subbed for years and years and never gotten hired. The schools right outside of Lincoln (Norris, Waverly etc), are great, but also hard to get into. The teacher's college at UNL is a good program, and many people who graduate from it try to stay in Lincoln. I'm not trying to discourage you...just recommending that you maybe apply and try to get a job before moving here. Omaha schools have more options too (and are easier to get into), so you could always apply to both if you wanted to move to NE.

The difficulty getting a job in Lincoln is well known. Several years ago my son (a math teacher) interviewed there and was called back for a 2nd interview, but still did not get hired. He was impressed with how they handled the interview process though. Very professional. If you keep trying persistence will often pay off.
You might want to look into jobs in the area that may not even be in Nebraska and keep applying for Lincoln over the next years. The Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri borders are all less than 100 miles of Lincoln.
