I am moving to the Grand Island area from Minnesota due to my husband's promotion. I've started a job search in the location and it seems that although the cost of living there is lower, the job market isn't as strong as I'm used to seeing here in the Twin Cities. Does anyone have any advice?

My background is in finance and reporting and I have a BA. There seems to be a good manufacturing base... but I'm not qualified. Is there hope or should I start trade school ASAP?

I'm sorry to say the job market is really limited in Grand Island. This is the kind of area once you get in somewhere, you stay there for many years as there just isn't much opportunity around here. The manufacturing sector is strong here, as is retail, and of course, the ag industry. There may be some banks or accounting firms you could get on with, or financial services brokers or insurance agencies. You may try looking up the local Chamber of Commerce website for the fields you are interested in and contact the companies directly to see if there is anything available.
