Any need for very cheap lawn mowing? (Omaha, Lincoln: for sale, houses)

My wife and I will be moving to McCook, NE within next 12 months. I would like to do some lawn mowing only, no trimming if possible. I would only charge 20 to 30.00 per yard regardless of size. Not trying to get rich just some cash for extras.

Does this sound possible or am I way off?

When we lived in Minnesota, my sons & I did a side-line lawn mowing service. (They then graduated, and I got REALLY sick of taking care of 35+ lawns by myself, so I sold everything.)

We charged $20 - $30 per lawn, depending on its size. In the fall we bagged leaves (PowerFlow Bagger on a John Deere) for exactly double the regular mowing rate. Commercial mowing was entirely different in our fees.

We did turn-key work. Mow, trim, clean up. If we bagged the leaves, we hauled them away.


So I think you're in line price-wise. But you may fun into people who fully expect their lawn to be nicely trimmed when it's mowed.

True, but also thinking of talking to realtors about the vacant homes for sale and keeping them mowed so as not to look like unkept eyesores.

Here in Lincoln, Nebraska it is difficult to find teens willing to mow a yard at any price. My yard takes about one hour with a 22 inch mower. This last year a new teen moved in two houses down and he would mow it for ten bucks using my mower. He moved in from a farm community out West and he has a good work ethic. He does a great job and I always pay him the ten dollars plus a ten dollar tip towards him buying his own mower. One of the other teens in the neighborhood was a good worker until he got hooked on drugs.

His work ethic went out the window when weed entered the picture.

Wish I could get our lawn mowed for $30, best price we had quoted with $45. So that means I will be doing it.

Yesterday I was scouting out garage sales here in Lincoln. One guy had several used/reconditioned riding mowers out for sale and a lot of them were on display at various garage sales.
