I noted a recent news report that Joe Biden is not for national legalization of recreational marijuana. He said the science is not there yet for that to happen. I tend to agree it should be a State issue.

But investigating further, I see that Nebraska is one of just two States, (the other South Dakota), that doesn't even allow medical marijuana. I'm not sure if this isn't in the pipeline in Nebraska.

My question is do you think medical should be allowed in Nebraska? What about recreational? (now legal in 11 States...Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington, and the District of Columbia).

No. No.

It's naive to think that it will only be used for "medicinal" or that it would be harmless.

Something I've always wondered: Why is it that tobacco is said to be so dangerous, but unfiltered marijuana is good?

Canada didn't go through that process of leaving the provinces to decide, in one full sweep, it legalized both medical and recreational marijuana nationwide, and physician-assisted suicide as well. Not sure if that could be achieved here, with a liberal President or not.

I figure if Utah could, at least, legalize medical marijuana, any other state could achieve it as well, even Nebraska.

As far as tobacco, overlooked is that the tobacco plant is actually an herb plant with medicinal purposes. One day it will be rediscovered like marijuana.

You have never lived in S.C. have you... The good ole boy network must be alive and well. There was a case where a sheriff and deputies escorted cartel tractor trailers (?) I have zero first hand knowledge of any of this. (Since 1980)

POT FREE since Oct 2016 Budcation is not much of a plan since my travel, snuggle buddy passed R.I.P. Gloria...

In regards to legalization, Canada is lucky to not have the Christian Right with the political power to hold up social progress.

Tobacco...I do agree with you but unlike marijuana, it's extremely physically addictive and it doesn't take much exposure for the body to become dependent on nicotine. Of course, nicotine itself isn't harmful but cigarette smoking is by far the most efficient delivery system and these days, I wouldn't trust vaping. In addition, tobacco smoke has many carcinogens in it that cannabis smoke does not. Something would need to be done to somehow remove the cancer-causing properties of tobacco for it to become a positive.

I wouldn't really hurl all the blame on the religious crowd for not allowing legalized marijuana, and in the case of medical marijuana not being legalized, you can well bet Big Pharma may be behind it.

Who do you believe would be behind it being legalized? You think it's just a grass-roots movement?

In a world where tobacco is fast becoming the taboo, big tobacco stands to make billions by selling a more potent, cheaper marijuana.

Well, duh, Mr. Biden. The science "is not there yet" because...wait for it...cannabis is a Schedule I controlled substance, and as such is illegal. So, until cannabis is rescheduled and made legal, scientific institutions that could have done the research are prohibited from receiving any federal funds.

Why is there so many people that apparently not living in Nebraska so interested in marijuana regulations and why hasn't anyone from Nebraska commented on this.

This is going to be another death penalty type outsider fiasco. For those that don't know, several years ago a
coven of hobbyists came into the state to wine and dine the state senators until they voted to eliminate the death penalty thus removing the death penalty from the state. Our Governor was smart enough to put it to a state wide vote and the death penalty was overwhelmingly reinstated. If I remember correctly it was 65% to 35%.

It's is only important what Nebraska residents want and no out-of-staters will make that decision.

I'm a life long resident of Nebraska and a strong conservative and I don't care what adults do in the privacy of their on homes but if they get kids involved or bring it to the streets then I do care.

I can't speak for why Nebraskans aren't commenting, but as a medical cardholder in California I have done a lot of research on cannabis. I thought my comment might be helpful.
