As for Nebraska- I'm not even there yet and everyone I've talked to (except MattDen) has been extremely helpful and friendly. My husband has been there a week and says the same. He's a foreman for the railroad and was told by his boss in WA that Midwesterners work harder, and he's finding that to be true, too! He's happy with his crew, our new neighbors, and everyone he's met so far. You folks in Nebraska are what my hometown folks used to be like; I'm looking forward to moving there by the end of the month!
Whoa there! I'm one of "those Californians" who has moved to WA and we're not ALL like what you've described!! Is it possible you've made an generalization at this point? BTW, I was born and raised in Nebraska ~ so I have thoughts on several points here.

I think you'll love it! Mmmm...trying to figure if I'm going off topic here, but off-hand I can't think of anything at all negative about Nebraska; IMHO it's a great state! It's a big state, too...where are you going to be? Or perhaps you're not sayin', and that's OK...

Sorry- you're right- I DID generalize! And I do have some friends who have come from California and I can't blame them for leaving. But because of the Californians- housing here has skyrocketed and what was once a nice conservative farming community is now overcrowded and liberal, and most of these newcomers are from California. So I might be a little jaded, sorry!!
We're looking at some of the smaller towns on the south side of Lincoln- my husband says it's beautiful there and I'll love it!
Sorry, Macrina, you don't rude at all!

Thanks, Racechick Actually, where I lived in California (Sonoma County and then Lake County) were really great places and I loved it there. These counties are in Northern California, and it's a whole different thing from Southern California. I was in that group who favoured splitting the state

Anyway, back on topic, I can't say enough good things about Nebraska. There is a sweetness and wholesomeness found in many places, and yeah, some detractors would complain about the area being 'behind the times' but honestly considering the times we're in, that's not a negative thing.

Thanks for helping me feel welcomed here on the forum!

It's not a great idea to put people in "good" and "bad" categories depending on where they are from. You will always get your b*** bit that way! (In other words, you'll always be wrong sooner or later.) After all, some of my best friends are from S. California! LOL!

BTW, I like your 'name under the name' and can relate, but I can't blame it on altitude

pittnurse- you're right. I guess all areas of the U.S. have been stereo-typed. I've already felt defensive when people say Nebraska is full of dumb hicks, and I don't even live there yet, ha ha!
