Lately I have had a desire to go to Las Vegas but after doing the budget for the month I decided maybe a trip to the boat in Council Bluffs, Iowa was a more logical choice. It was a beautiful day so I hopped on my motorcycle (a 2006 Vulcan 900) and headed for the gas station. It took just over $12.00 to top the tank with Premium at $4.19 per gallon. I was not in any hurry to get to the boat so I took Hwy 6 from Lincoln to West Omaha. A quick stop off at a Woodworkers shop off of Center Road and 146th street to look at tools that I could never fit into my tiny shop, even if I could afford them, took an hour or more. Back on the bike and a brisk ride on Omaha city streets left me wondering just when Omaha had changed so much. With the stockyards gone there is no longer a "country smell" in the air if you know what I mean. Nothing but citified smells now.

Back on the bike and I decide to drive by the Henry Doorly Zoo and Rosenblatt Stadium. I just rode by and didn't stop, maybe next trip. By this time I headed to the Ameristar Casino. Since I cannot walk or stand for more than a few minutes at a time I need a wheelchair to get around. Difficult to carry on a motorcycle LOL. I had called the Ameristar Security office on the cell phone earlier and they told me they would have a chair waiting for me when I got there. I parked in one of the Handicap spots ( I do have a Handicap Plate on the cycle) and a Security person was right there to assist me. She was very helpful. By this time I was extremely hungry so I headed right to their buffet. WOW. What a spread! I had boiled shrimp until I thought I was going to bust. I never did get around to anything else. Even then I think I got my moneys worth.

I wheeled around the Casino and dropped a few bucks at the Craps table. Since I know absolutely nothing about Craps I got about a $30 tutorial in how not to bet. I had set a limit of $50 to lose and then I was going to walk out the door when it was gone. A trip to the Roulette wheel put the $30 dollars that I blew at the Craps table plus a few more back in my pocket. I thought maybe it was time to leave since it was such a beautiful day outside and the cigarette smoke was starting to get to me. On the way out I just had to try the MegaBucks (?) slot machine. I put $3.00 in it and pulled the handle. Another $30.00 for my back pocket.. Time to leave. I am sure I will leave my money there on my next trip back but this time they fed me like a King and I walked out the door with their money in my pocket. Life is good. LOL.

It was too early in the day to go directly back to Lincoln so I headed South on some of the backroads in Iowa. NO helmet law in Iowa so guess what? Off come the helmet. Since I have a nice pair of driving glasses for eye protection I really enjoyed riding those back roads. Riding with a helmet is still fun but there is just something about cruising down the road at 60 mph or so with the wind blowing through your hair. It brought back memories of some of the rides I enjoyed before the government decided they know what is best for us and mandated helmet laws! BTW if you live in a State that lets you decide whether you should wear a helmet. . . count your blessings.

By the time I got to Sidney, Iowa it was time to fill the gas tank again. It took about $12.00 again but since it was Ameristars money going into the tank I didn't mind a bit. Back on the road again heading West on Highway 2. Waubonsee park is a fantastic place to camp and hike. Today I just road by and enjoyed the green grass and blooming flowers. Since it was later in the afternoon I was keeping a close watch for Deer crossing the road. I saw several but they were no hazard to me so I enjoyed the sight.A quick stop at the junction of Highway 2 and I-29 to put my helmet back on and I then cross over into Nebraska. A short time later and I am back in Lincoln filling the gas tank again. Just over $10.00 this time and the tank is full. All in all I had a heckuva enjoyable day and came home with more money in my pocket that when I left. Not a bad way to spend a day.

Good post. I came out $85 ahead when I last gambled, which was two months ago in Nevada (was with family visiting relatives). Coming out ahead is a good feeling. Very interesting story and desciptions.

A motorcycle is great aerahrtlu. A friend of my Dad gave me a ride in the sidecar of his bike when I was ten years old. I was hooked and I saved every penny for the next three years until I was able to buy my first motorcycle at age 13. I've been riding and loving it ever since and I am now 61.

My family is compensating for gasoline prices... by eliminating hotel costs.

We bought this cute little 1976 13 foot 'Scamp' travel trailer... which our Honda Element can pull at almost 20mpg at an average of 60mph. It's very comfortable for my wife, my son, and I.
