I might be up for it. Gotta get a new camera, ours went to camera heaven. We are gonna see what Black Friday brings in terms of sales, although I'm not much for that craziness.

I never leave the house on Black Friday. I sit in my robe and slippers, happily brewing/drinking either coffee or cappucino, and go online at 530 in the AM. I'll have five or six webpages up at the same time, comparing prices and making my purchases from the comfort of my couch or chair! Nothing is ever out of stock, no one is knocking me down or tripping me to get in the doors or to the next sale counter (I'm very short!), and I can then finish decorating all weekend without being exhausted! All of the Black Friday ads are right there on the webpages, and the money I'd spend on gas and eating out and rushing to and fro is less than shipping - often, shipping is free or reduced too!

I can even mail my Christmas cards, or preorder the email ones, or wrap my packages to mail, while I sit! Hee hee.

THIS Granny is all about comfort and quiet, and the easy way to do things! So get ready to grab yer cameras, new or old, and let's have some FUN!

I will have a house full of family members coming down thanksgiving night. Then at 4:00 a.m. we will be at Perkins then to the mall by 5:00. Going to go into one store tonight to see what the camera is like. "to see if I want to wait in line" Need a new camera have a cannon sure shot, but I get tired of taking the film in to be developed.
My dad has informed us not to turn the lights on, and don't let the door hit us in the @!# on the way out. I am sure by noon we will all be home sound asleep!

oh... and I am less than 2 miles from the mall...

Last year was my first real experience with Black Friday. My brother lives out of country and wanted a camera. Well, this one was on sale at K-mart. We had every K-mart in the tri-cities covered and we came out empty handed. Well, my mother got smart and called Wal-mart (which also had the camera, but not on sale) and asked if they would price match K-marts sale price. Sure enough they did! Worked out pretty well!

Good luck lisalynn! ScGranny, you have the right idea. Although, I can't imagine a huge crowd waiting outside the Valentine Alco! (I'm sure there will be more people there than I think)

LOL, we kinda have gotten off topic! Oh well

Granny, you'd have to go to Rapid or North Platte to find stores that run Black Friday sales, anyway.

LOL Yup, I know... half of the "local" merchants in Valentine don't want to do the commercialism of Black Friday, and the other half do. Baumgarr's might, as well as Alco and maybe the new Pomida Drug (Don't know this for a fact) and a few other 'larger' stores. Problem is that from what I've seen they are pretty much thinking that folks are downsizing, so they don't have what I want or need, for the most part. Cute stuff, yes, but not what I need.

Having been a department manager for some years for Wal Mart, and having run those Black Friday sales, I have a particular loathing for them anyway. Don't like the sheep herd mentality, or the screaming and yelling and fighting, and usually the products they have on sale are about to be phased out for a better model, or already have glitches in them. Built-in obsolescence is the norm instead of the rarity, I know, but still - those Christmas lights had better at least last a SEASON!

The fancy Kodak dig camera I bought had a flash that lasted 6 months - and once it went out it was more expensive to ship it off and have it fixed than it was to buy a new one. So I am simply not a fan of fast, cheap, and easy... one of the main reasons I moved to NE!! I didn't like the madness of more and better... like this thread started out, "Where else can you play Barbies under the craps table?' I chose a better way of life for me, slower and more comfortable, happier and more centered.

I don't mind if other folks want to live that way; it's their choice of course. But I like the slower pace and the homemade wooden creches, the fluffy 'snowflakes' on the light poles rather than the wire lighted frames everywhere. The FD in Valentine has a wire-framed, light/motion Santa and slegh and reindeer on the front, but even they wrapped it in garland so it is fuller and prettier - and visible in daylight. I like my homemade fruitcakes and rum balls. I like a slower, more relaxed way of living. And Black Friday simply doesn't fit into that at all! LOL

Sorry, gotta go soak the fruit in rum and brandy until it gets twice its size, then to fold it into the batter... and still have to prep the deer meat for jerky... Ahhhhhh. THIS is living....
